While in law school, Mr. Woodyard served as an Executive Officer for the law school’s Trial Advocacy Board and was a member/trial team competitor for the American Association for Justice Trial Team.
Before law school, Alex graduated from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a degree in criminal justice and a minor in biology. Alex was a member of the National Honor Society, and a Student Justice on the Student Government Judicial Board. During his undergraduate studies, Alex obtained an EMT certification.
Attorney Woodyard is a trial lawyer. Insurance companies know which attorneys are willing to fight a case all the way to trial and Alex is one of them. His trial skills and abilities add value to cases. In his very first jury trial, Alex won the largest jury verdict in North Carolina on a dog attack case. Alex has a great deal of experience and has gained experience litigating cases involving civil rights violations, premises liability issues, wrongful death, medical malpractice, injured workers, personal injury, police misconduct, landlord-tenant disputes, contract disputes, municipality issues, family law disputes, and criminal defense and prosecution. Mr. Woodyard has successfully tried many cases throughout NC courts.
Mr. Woodyard’s familiarity with the law and personal injury can be traced back to his experiences with his family. Alex comes from a family of attorneys and healthcare professionals. Alex’s desire to represent injured plaintiffs stems from his personal experiences with his father. A victim of physician carelessness, Alex’s father is now permanently confined to a wheelchair. Alex and his family learned first-hand, from the plaintiffs’ perspective, the difficulties faced when dealing with insurance companies and the court system. This experience left a burning desire in Alex to help the injured, which ultimately led him to pursue a career doing injured plaintiffs’ work.
Alex is an active member of the North Carolina Advocates for Justice. He has worked in many leadership roles for the NCAJ, and was even awarded the NCAJ Allen A. Bailey Endowment Fellowship in 2017. Alex has held leadership positions in the New Lawyer’s Division and the Nursing Home Abuse and Neglect section. He also co-chaired the Law School Committee with his older brother, Chris. Alex continues to devote his time and effort with the NCAJ as he has chaired different community service projects that helped benefit the less fortunate, and he has taught other lawyers as a presenter at various CLE (continuing legal education) courses.

$500K Award for Boy in Dog Attack
Jury compensates young victim of pit bull attack
A news article from North Carolina Lawyers Weekly, published on July 30, 2018, reports a $500,000 jury award to a young boy who sustained severe facial injuries after being attacked by a neighbor's pit bull. The boy's family initially struggled to find a lawyer due to the absence of insurance coverage for the dog.
Attorney Alex Woodyard, who has been featured and recognized in numerous magazines and media appearances, took on the case. He argued that the pit bull had been neglected and left chained outdoors, which heightened the risk of aggression. Woodyard’s approach included addressing common perceptions about pit bull behavior and emphasizing the owner’s negligence.
The article also includes a "Verdict Report" summarizing key details of the case, including the awarded amount, nature of injuries, and the parties involved.
